St. Xavier’s College is a private, Catholic, independently operated university located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is run by the Bombay Province of the Society of Jesus. On January 2, 1869, the Jesuits established it. St. Xavier’s college, which has ties to the University of Mumbai, offers undergraduate and graduate programmes in management, business, and the humanities. In 2010, the University of Mumbai gave autonomy to the first college, Xavier’s. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) gave St. Xavier’s a ‘A+’ grade in 2006.

Francis Xavier, a Spanish Jesuit saint from the 16th century, is the inspiration behind the college’s name.

German Jesuits founded Xavier’s in 1869, and between 1884 and 1914, it expanded quickly. The First World War (1914–1918) saw the arrest of German Jesuit priests, which disrupted the administration.  In the 1930s, the college underwent significant growth.

With a clear emphasis on affirmative action for minority students, Indian Jesuits are now in charge of running the college. It offers undergraduate and graduate courses in public policy, business, science, and other fields.

With 2648 undergraduate students and 99 postgraduate students as of 2007, the college is still primarily an undergraduate institution. The University of Mumbai creates the course schedules, which include midterm and final exams for undergraduate and graduate courses. All departments have a success percentage of 90 to 100 percent for students, and university exams have a success rate of 95 to 100 percent. Catholics, applicants who are underprivileged economically and socially, and students from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) all receive special consideration.
Science, art, and business courses at the junior college level run two years. Science, art, and business courses at the junior college level run two years.
