Indian Institute of Management (IIM)

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) are Centrally Funded Business Schools for management that offer undergrad, grad, doctorate, and executive programmes in addition to certain other business administration courses. On the advice of the Planning Commission of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, took the initiative to establish the IIMs.

After the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, was passed, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) designated IIMs as institutions of national importance. This measure increased the autonomy of IIMs in managing their daily business. The IIM council was replaced with an IIM coordination forum as a result of the act.

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) receive funding from the government. According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) adopted by the Indian HRD minister, major IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, and IIM Indore have attained top 10 ranks among management schools.All IIMs’ flagship programmes are the full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) programmes.The two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) or the one-year Global MBA (EPGP, PGPX, PGPEX, PGPEX-VLM, PGP-BL & IPMX) are the two options for the full-time MBA degree.  It adheres to international MBA standards. Additionally, a few IIMs provide a two-year part-time (executive) MBA for

grads with more professional experience.

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) only provided diplomas upon completion of full-time programmes. The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM), a doctoral programme, is provided by some IIMs. Globally, the fellowship is viewed as being equal to a DBA. The majority of IIMs now provide part-time programmes and short-term Executive MBA courses. Some IIMs additionally provide special programmes, such as the five-year integrated management programme offered by IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, and IIM Indore, as well as the two-year working managers’ programme at IIM Lucknow. The only IIM that provides a five-year integrated programme in law (BBA+LLB) is IIM Rohtak.
