Gauhati University

A collegiate public state university, Gauhati University (often referred to as GU), is situated in Guwahati, Assam, India. On January 26, 1948, it was founded. The oldest university in Northeast India is this one. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has granted it accreditation with a grade of “A”. In 1948, Gauhati University had 18 affiliated colleges and 8 postgraduate departments. In addition to IDOL (Institute of Distance and Open Learning), a constituent Law and Engineering College, the university now includes 39 postgraduate departments. There are 341 colleges that are connected with it, and they offer undergraduate and graduate programs in the faculties of arts, science, commerce, law, medicine, engineering, and technology.

The university is located in the Guwahati city region near Jalukbari. The southern edge of the campus is a hill, and the northern edge is bordered by the Brahmaputra River. A small community called “Gopinath Bardoloi Nagar” has grown out of the university area. There are 3700 students living in the hostels out of a total population of roughly 6000. There are 22 residence halls for students in addition to the homes for instructors, officers, and staff. Gauhati University has selected Greycells, the industry-leading Education ERP system from Kalingasoft, to automate its internal procedures. The academic, administrative, and financial operations at the university have all been fully automated as a result of this implementation.

The National Mission for Manuscripts, formed in 2003, has classified the university’s Krishna Kanta Handique Library as a “Manuscript Conservation Center” (MCC). With a collection of around 850,000 volumes, magazines, and journals, the library is the biggest in Assam. Additionally, it houses 5,000 rare manuscripts, some of which date back more than 300 years.
