The public Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, formerly known as Burla Medical College (BMC) and Veer Surendra Sai Medical College and Hospital (VSSMCH), is located in the Indian state of Odisha. It was founded in 1959 and offers medical instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. About 330 kilometers northwest of the state capital Bhubaneswar, in Sambalpur, Odisha, is where the Veer Surendra Sai Medical College & Hospital campus is located.

The Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research offers paramedical courses in addition to undergraduate and graduate degrees in the area of medical science. A maximum of 200 students can enroll in the four-and-a-half-year MBBS program, which includes a one-year mandatory rotating internship in affiliated hospitals. This course’s admission is based solely on merit. Out of the 200, 30 seats are filled through the NTA’s AIQ (All India Quota) of the NEET test, and the remaining 170 through OJEE’s administration of the same exam. One applicant out of every 500 gets accepted into this program, or 0.2% of applicants.

An undergraduate students’ union, which is chosen yearly by a campus-wide vote among the fourth-year students in March or April, represents the interests of the students. The annual function of the students’ union, which takes place in December, is the culmination of the year’s worth of events, competitions, and programs organized by the officers of the union. A similar union, the Junior Doctors’ Association, represents postgraduate students. Every three years, the inter-medical college event “Euphoria” is held. Numerous students come together for a four-day festival where they compete in a variety of literary, dramatic, and sporting events.
