St. Xavier's College Kolkata

St. Xavier’s College Kolkata, a Christian Minority Higher Education Institution, was established in 1860 by the Society of Jesus, a Catholic Minority Religious organization, and joined Calcutta University in 1862. Admission is open to all, regardless of caste, creed, or nationality, with consideration given to the educational and cultural needs of the minority community. Under its five faculties—Arts, Science, Commerce, Business Administration, and Education—St. Xavier’s College provides UG and PG programs. Under Career Oriented Programs and Computer Center, it also provides a variety of professional certificate and diploma courses. Ph.D. programs are offered by St. Xavier’s College Kolkata in commerce, microbiology, biotechnology, and physics.

Classrooms are spacious and can hold a big number of pupils without feeling crowded. Large, open verandahs surround them, allowing pupils plenty of room to wander about and breathe. Offices, labs, and libraries have all been computerized to deliver services more quickly and effectively. The Arts and Science Department started the Central Research Facility in October 2009. It features a variety of instrumentation, including a Spectrophotometer, Water Treatment Plant, Water Analyzer, Stereo Microscope, and more. It primarily offers cutting-edge research facilities to several Departments, encouraging cross-disciplinary research in the process. The canteen is the open, unofficial gauge for determining how the campus is doing. It is no different at St. Xavier’s. Anyone who walks into our canteen will immediately notice how excited our college students are.

The St. Xavier’s College Fr. Verstraeten Central Library is essential to the college’s teaching and learning operations. It serves as the focal point for all academic endeavors related to UG and PG courses and research projects. For the benefit of its patrons, the Library contains a vast collection of around 69,000 books, including old and rare books, excellent reference books, journals, educational CDs/DVDs, and countless e-books, e-journals, and other resources.
