Shivaji University

A state university in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India, Shivaji University was founded in 1962. The institution bears Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s name; he founded the Maratha Empire, and his campus spans 853 acres (345 hectares). On November 18, 1962, Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the president of India at the time, formally opened it. When it came to founding this university, Yashwantrao Chavan and Balasaheb Desai were the driving forces. Its foundation included one of the primary goals of meeting the region of South Maharashtra’s educational demands. The University’s commitment to excellence is acknowledged by the sizeable awards it has obtained from funding organisations like the Department of Science and Technology (India) and University awards Commission (India).

Recently, Shivaji University and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre struck an agreement to collaborate on material science research.

Additionally, it has collaborated with businesses like Phyto-Pharma and the Indian Institute of Geo-Magnetism in Mumbai.

Students in the M.A. mass communication department publish the private distribution newspapers Madhyamvidya and Media Spectrum.
One of the top academic libraries in southern Maharashtra is the Barr. B. Khardekar Library at Shivaji University. It meets the academic needs of university staff, faculty, other users, and guests from other colleges and institutions.

Over 3.1 lakh printed books and 298 national and international journals are available at the library. The library has access to more than 6000+ electronic journals and a few electronic databases because it is a member of the UGC/INFONET Digital Library consortium of the INFLIBNET Centre. For inter-library loans, it has forged relationships with universities, national, and international organisations’ libraries.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has reaccredited Shivaji University with a “A++” Grade (CGPA-3.52) for the academic year 2021.
