Delhi School of Economics, One of the top universities in India is the Delhi School of Economics. V.K.R.V. Rao founded the institution in 1949 with the help of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It developed from the idea that a young country seeking social and economic advancement need a thriving hub for advanced social science research. Along with its sibling departments of geography and sociology, the economics department has produced many of the top academics, educators, administrators, policymakers, business executives, and journalists in the nation. Amartya Sen, a Nobel Prize winner, Manmohan Singh, the current prime minister, and the late Sukhamoy Chakravarty, a key figure in the development of India’s Five Year Plans, have all taught here.

The department’s flagship teaching programme is the two-year MA in Economics, which is regarded as one of the best in the nation. The student receives a solid foundation in economic theory, empirical methods, and current policy debates thanks to its combination of rigour and relevance.
