An institution that offers instruction and does research on the subject of architecture is known as the Chandigarh College of Architecture. It includes the states of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh as well as the union territories of Chandigarh and Jammu & Kashmir in northwestern India. Furthermore, 200 undergraduates are enrolled in the college. The college is connected with the Panjab University’s Faculty of Design and Fine Arts and offers a five-year program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Architecture (BArch).
The 10-semester course is provided in two stages. Stage One lasts three years from the first to the sixth semester. And Stage Two, which lasts two years from the seventh to the tenth semester. Stage One consists of theoretical lessons, tutorials, workshop practice, and studio work to give students a fundamental understanding of architecture and its instruments and techniques. The second stage entails a six-month practical training program followed by a substantial number of elective courses and studies in urban design, professional practice, town planning, and a thesis. The curriculum was changed in 1998 to include more multidisciplinary courses and emerging topics including sustainable design and building automation.
The Chandigarh College Of Architecture is located inside of Sector 12 in Chandigarh’s PEC University of Technology Campus. The 5-acre (20,000 m2) campus where CCA is located has many facilities. It includes a gym, a basketball court, a volleyball court, and a cricket field. The female hostel is situated in Sector 11, Chandigarh. The boys hostel is situated 250 yards (230 m) behind the school, close to the PEC market.
