The origins of music education in India go back to a time when the Ashrams and Gurukulas of renowned Saints and Rishi-Munis were the primary places where education was delivered. The British monarchs, starting in the middle of the nineteenth century, introduced the system of contemporary institutionalization of education in a graded, time-bound structure. Incorporating and organizing Indian music instruction into this system dates back to the turn of the 20th century. Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar and Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande, two titans of Indian music in this century, established two steadfast, parallel lineages that helped institutionalize the music training and education system. Many of these students are studying Indian classical music in these nations.

Further, its sound museum has the rarest collection of CDs and cassettes of recordings of renowned artists. The canteen is located in the university premises for student’s and staff’s convenience. Also, there is a recording studio to maintain the record of lecture demonstrations, seminars, and conferences.
