After the Indian War of Independence in 1857, the renowned Muslim reformer and politician Sir Syed Ahmad Khan believed that it was crucial for Muslims to have an education and get active in Indian society and government duties. It was out of his work that the university was born. Sir Syed received assistance from Raja Jai Kishan in starting the university.
Students attend Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) from various parts of India as well as outside, particularly from Southeast Asia, West Asia, and Africa. Students from SAARC and Commonwealth nations are allotted seats in various courses. There are 13 faculties in total at the university, including departments of study for Agricultural Sciences, Arts, Commerce, Engineering and Technology, Law, Life Sciences, Medicine, Management Studies and Research, Science, Social Sciences, Theology, and Unani Medicine.
The University maintains a number of Colleges, Institutes, Centre, and Schools. Women’s College, the Center of Professional Courses, the Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, the Zakir Hussain College of Engineering & Technology.The Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, the Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, the Institute of Ophthalmology, the Centre for Advanced Studies in History.
A Provost oversees a group of hostels called a Hall of Residence. While several teacher wardens are responsible for overseeing individual hostels. Unless specifically exempted by the Provost, all prisoners must eat in the communal dining hall. The hubs of corporate life at the university are the residential halls. A reading room, library, sports clubs, and a common room with equipment for indoor games are all maintained by each hall.
Training and Placement Office was created in March 2012 with the goal of placing students and building corporate relationships. The cell’s goal is to help students find work by introducing them to job prospects.
