One of the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Guwahati is a public medical school and hospital located in Changsari, Assam, India (close to Guwahati). The first group of 50 MBBS students began their academic work in January 2021.

In order to address regional disparities in access to high-quality tertiary care and to achieve self-sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education, the Institute was founded. Moreover, to exhibit a high standard of medical education to all medical colleges and other affiliated institutions in India, the Institute aspires to create model patterns of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all of its branches. A medical college with an annual intake of 125 MBBS students and a nursing college with an annual intake of 75 students will be part of AIIMS Guwahati. In addition to providing OPD and emergency services, the hospital will contain a 750-bed in-patient facility run by specialist and super-specialty departments that is furnished with all modern conveniences. In March 2020, Dr. Chitra Sarkar, a prominent neuropathologist, former professor of pathology, and former dean (research), AIIMS-New Delhi, was proposed to serve as the institution’s inaugural president.

Further, the Central Library of AIIMS Guwahati was officially opened on February 23, 2023. The Central Library is located on the third floor of the Medical College building. It has ample lamination and is completely air-conditioned. At the moment, the library can accommodate 100 readers at once. Also, the most recent edition of around 1200 physical books has been purchased. The faculties can also get references and articles upon request.
