National Institute of Technology Karnataka

The National Institute of Technology Karnataka, also known as NITK, is a public technical university in Surathkal, Mangalore. It was founded in 1960 as Karnataka Regional Engineering College and was renamed as National Institute of Technology Karnataka in 2002. NITK is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India, and is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.

History
In 2002, KREC was renamed National Institute of Technology Karnataka and was granted Institute of National Importance status by the Indian government. Today, NITK is one of the premier technical institutions in India and offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in various fields of engineering, science, and management.

Campus

.The residential area of the campus is home to over 5000 students and has a number of hostels, messes, and recreational facilities.

NITK offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in various fields of engineering, science, and management. The institute has 14 academic departments, which offer courses in areas such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, metallurgical and materials engineering, chemical engineering, mathematical and computational sciences, physics, chemistry, humanities, social sciences, management studies, and information technology.

The institute has a number of research centres, including the Centre for System Design,  Material Sciences and Technology, and Information and Network Security and more.
