IIT Kharagpur

In Kharagpur, West Bengal, India, the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) is a public institute of technology and a research university. It was started in 1951. Following India’s independence in 1947, the institute was initially founded to educate engineers. However, the institute’s academic offerings have expanded over time to include business, law, architecture, humanities, etc. The campus of IIT Kharagpur is 8.7 square kilometers (2,100 acres) and is home to around 22,000 people.

Located 120 kilometers (75 miles) west of Kolkata is IIT Kharagpur. On the 2,100-acre (8.5 square kilometers) site, around 22,000 people are living. Around 605 faculty members, 1,933 staff members, and roughly 10,010 students resided on the campus of IIT Kharagpur in 2015. There are 55 kilometers (34 miles) of roads on the campus. Moreover, the institute has a branch campus in Kolkata in addition to its main campus in Kharagpur, which serves as a location for distance learning courses, continuing education programs, and guesthouse lodging. The university uses its Rajarhat extension center in Kolkata to provide several full-time undergraduate and graduate courses.

The overseas assignments started in 2006. Schlumberger and Halliburton, two multinational oil firms, visited IIT Kharagpur that year and presented employees with $80,000 yearly wages. Further, the highest domestic salary in 2008 was 1.8 million yen ($23,000) annually. Goldman Sachs hired 10 students in the 2011 class on a salary of 2.6 million (US$33,000) annually. A total of 1723 offers (including PPOs) were made by various businesses as of the session 2021–2022, which included both phases of the placement drive, with the highest CTC ever recorded in IIT history of 2.4 Crore (US$301,014) per annum.
