Government Medical College Jammu

Government Medical College, Jammu, a prominent institution in J&K (Union Territory), was founded in 1973 in a temporary structure with the goal of offering the local population high-quality education and healthcare services. This facility is situated in the centre of Jammu’s Temple City. However, the seating capacity has now been raised to 180 students per year, and the college now offers post-graduate training courses in addition to the MBBS programme.

From the improvised buildings of the past, with sparse staff and resources, to the massive complex of the present, with a network of suitably staffed and completely equipped allied hospitals, this college is today regarded as one of the top institutions in Northern India.

The institution initially had 900 beds in total, but thanks to the opening of the Medical College Hospital building in 1993, it now has 1700 beds, including those at allied institutions such the Sir. Col. R.N. Chopra Nursing Home.

Medical College Hospital, CD Hospital, SMGS, and two other teaching hospitals Psychiatry Hospital, and Dental Hospital. In the college and its affiliated hospitals, there are 1500 Class-III & IV employees, 800 doctors, including faculty and residents, 1000 paramedical personnel, including supervisory staff, and 1000 Class-III & IV employees.

The Medical College, Jammu is also associated with three blocks, R.S. Pura, Kot-Bhalwal, and Dansal, for the training of the college’s undergraduate and graduate students.

The Principal and Dean are in charge at Government Medical College in Jammu. All of the professors and associated professors make up the college council. Co-opted Members of the Council are assistant professors serving in HOD capacities. After the Principal, the Members Secretary is the professor with the most seniority. This Council acts as the Principal’s advisory body in all topics relating to the college. The council holds at least six meetings each year.
